CAP – Car Auction Prices (CAP) started out in the 1970s and has gone on to become a market leader in trade car valuations. CAP obtain their valuation data from a variety of sources including car auction houses, finance companies, insurance companies, and car manufacturers. Using such a wide source of information means that CAP can provide a valuation guides in three main areas of the automotive industry: CAP Black Book for passenger vehicles, CAP Red Book for commercial vehicles and CAP Green Book for motorcycles.
They also have a future forecasting valuation product called CAP Black Book Plus, that uses price trends to estimate the value of a vehicle over the upcoming months that they claim provides accurate 0-12 month forecasts for new and used cars up to five years old. Useful for dealers to know how their current stock is likely to be affected.
In addition to this they provide almost daily updates to their CAP Black Book Live product which reports on current price movements which they say is the only independent, fully-researched “live” valuation tool.
