CAP – Car Auction Prices started out in the 1970s and went on to become a market leader in trade vehicle valuations. They are considered the industry experts with their award-winning products, according to Car Dealer magazine.
CAP obtain their valuation data from a variety of sources including car auction houses, finance companies, insurance companies, and car manufacturers. Using such a broad source of information means that CAP can provide valuation guides in three main areas of the automotive industry: CAP Black Book for passenger vehicles, CAP Red Book for commercial vehicles and CAP Green Book for motorcycles. They provide the dealer with 3 condition based price guides, Excellent, Average, Poor and an estimate of private sale value. They also indicate estimated annual running costs of the vehicle.
They also have a future forecasting valuation product called CAP Black Book Plus, which uses price trends to estimate the value of a vehicle over the upcoming months that they claim provides accurate 0-12 month forecasts for new and used cars up to five years old. Useful for dealers to know how their current stock is likely to be affected and the estimated rate of a car's price depreciation.
In addition to this, they provide almost daily updates to their CAP Black Book Live product which reports on current price movements which they say is the only independent, fully-researched “live” valuation tool, perfect for anyone buying or selling.
Solera UK, the parent company of HPI, acquired CAP for £295m in November 2014. They went onto merge the 2 brands in 2015 to form CAP-HPI. Find out how to contact them by viewing the site at https://www.cap-hpi.com.
