The road trip is a typically American activity where a bunch of teenagers drive Route 66 in an open top car, music blaring and everyone singing at the top of their lungs.
Unfortunately, in England, driving on the M5 to Alton Towers when it’s pouring down with rain doesn’t quite have the same ring to it… But there are ways you can liven up your drive, and that is with the music you have playing.
Everyone will have their own personal choice when it comes to the music on their road trip playlist, but we have listed some songs that always lift the spirits, so shut down our car selling app, open up your music player and get these blaring!
The Proclaimers – I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)
Definitely not the best song ever written, but has it ever got to the chorus and you haven’t started singing?!
The Rolling Stones – Sympathy For The Devil
As soon as you hear the iconic opening howls from Jagger and he is allowed to introduce himself, the catchy samba rhythm will get toes tappin’ on your journey.
Mark Ronson ft Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk
Uptown Funk was famed for bringing the 1980s to 2014, and recently became the third most watched video on YouTube of all time! Another song that you can’t help but sing along to, it will do wonders to raise the mood in the car if it has become a bit flat.
Nickelback – Rockstar
Pretty much the most hated band on the internet (bit harsh really…), Nickelback won back some fans when they released Rockstar in 2007. It’s one of those songs that you know the words to, even if you didn’t know you knew, you know?
Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want To Have Fun
Arguably one of the most quintessentially 80s songs ever released, this karaoke classic will get everyone singing in the car. We could have gone for ‘I Drove All Night’ from Lauper, but this is just a bit more fun!
Journey – Don’t Stop Believing
Brought back to the forefront of everyone’s mind courtesy of Glee, the infectious lyrics are sure to get the whole car in a singsong, and that’s basically the main aim of a road trip, right?
Love Shack – The B52’s
The video itself even opens with a road trip, so if that’s not reason enough, then what is?
Guns N’ Roses – Sweet Child O’ Mine
Everyone knows the opening guitar riff to this, and will no doubt replicate it complete with air guitar. They even sing it in the car in the film ‘Step Brothers’, and that’s a good enough reason to add it to the list.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Californication
Toto – Africa
AC/DC – Highway to Hell
