According to figures from the Central Statistics Office, there were 119,952 new cars registered in the first seven months. This is an increase of 20% on the same seven-month period of 2015.

The figures also showed an increase of 5.5% in the number of new cars registered in July, compared to the same month in 2015.

Seven out of every ten new private cars which were licensed turned out to be diesel, while there was also an 5.4% increase in the number of new goods vehicles licensed in July, bringing the total to 2,560.

When it came to used cars, a total of 5,637 used, imported cars were licensed, which is an increase of just over 38% on the same month last year.
