The ten best-selling cars of 2015 so far

2015 has been a very good year for car sales, as the figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has shown. 178,420 new cars were registered in July 2015, which saw an increase of 3.2 per cent compared to the same month last year.

This has marked 41 consecutive months of growth for new car registrations in the UK, and so far in 2015, car sales have exceeded 1.5 million, which is a 6.5 per cent increase on the same time last year.

But what are the ten best-selling cars of 2015 so far? We have taken a look below (all sales figures are as of August 2015):

  1. Fiat 500 – Sales: 25,915

The Fiat 500 is the small, yet practical hatchback which is perfect for city driving. However, it can have quite an uncomfortable ride at higher speeds, but many find a way to forgive this thanks to its stylish appearance.

  1. Mercedes-Benz C Class – Sales: 27,544

The Mercedes C Class is often regarded as one the best cars in its class, which includes the BMW 3-series. It is extremely spacious for its size, but can be quite expensive to run.

  1. Audi A3 – Sales: 29,496

Great to drive, relatively cheap to run and reasonable ownership costs, the Audi A3 is a great little hatchback. However, interior space can get a bit cramped, so it is recommended for smaller families.

  1. Volkswagen Polo – Sales: 32,600

The Volkswagen Polo might not be one of the most fun to drive cars on the list, but it is practical and reliable, providing a grown up car in a small and affordable package!

  1. Vauxhall Astra – Sales: 33,153

A solid all-rounder, the Vauxhall Astra offers reliability and practicality at every turn. So much so, it is used as a panda car for the police in 54 constabularies across the UK!

  1. Nissan Qashqai – Sales: 38,290

The Nissan Qashqai is a great investment as a family car, as it holds its value excellently. Surprisingly agile to drive, the Qashqai does not often let you down.

  1. Volkswagen Golf – Sales: 43,141

Whether you buy the 1.4 petrol or the 1.6 diesel version, the Volkswagen Golf is a great all-rounder. The 1.6 diesel is great for anyone who has to do a lot of driving for work, whilst the 1.4 petrol is perfect for a private owner, and is much quieter and cheaper.

  1. Ford Focus – Sales: 52,122

A fun to drive family car, the Ford Focus consistently provides a great vehicle, with those who invest in one rarely left disappointed.

  1. Vauxhall Corsa – Sales: 55,011

The Vauxhall Corsa is inexpensive to run and is a smart looking car inside and out, which has helped propel sales this year. A great car to drive around town, the turbocharged 1.0 litre petrol engine offers a smooth, yet powerful ride.

  1. Ford Fiesta – Sales: 80,494

Top of the pile is the Ford Fiesta, which is excellent to drive, and handles the lumps and bumps in the road with ease, unlike some of its competitors. Some of the cheaper models aren’t quite as good, but the Zetec is probably the best choice to go for if you are looking into getting a Fiesta.
